Sept 11, 2015 - Travel early morning to the Horseshoe Bay Ferry terminal has proven its challenge with Translink schedule change. Luckily, I know Downtown Vancouver quite well and am able to navigate my way to the next transit point, which is more than 10 blocks away.
Took the bus 250 to Horseshoe Bay through 2nd Narrow Bridge instead of Lions Gate Bridge. It was like a complete detour from Downtown to West Vancouver. Arrive Horseshoe Bay terminal at 8am for 8.30am sailing. That was tight. We carry so many foods for camping and I felt we are picnicking.
Either way, we arrive the ferry terminal and change to another smaller ferry to reach New Castle Island. It was a nice 4km walk along Nanaimo Island. Upon arrival, we have hot tea and lunch. The best thing ever:) We had fried chicken, that I bought the night before (after work)- It was cold but tasty. After eating, we have our own requested private time. It is fine by me- sleeping under the hut and also, walking by the beach side for photos. Amazing day and having private time, helps inspire some of great photo experience. I am a little hyper-active that day.
Then, after a short rest, we hike through Shoreline trail, where we go along the shore and see what is hidden at the back of the island. The water was so calm and with a polarizer, the effect of the water wave can be visible and the sun was shining bright. We took around 2-3 hours walk and return to the campsite for more food. This time, instant noodles with seaweed and egg. What a feast, for a camping experience.
The night then, followed by racoon checking out for food, short after dark photo session, campfire, stars glazing and trying to sleep inside the camp. Of course, I am the early bird when it comes to waking up because of the beautiful sunrise picture.
Sunrise is amazing and it last for a short period of time. The clouds blends to the sky, the water blends to the rock and the sky blends to the water -the nature is just amazing. Our photo sessions began again and upon returning breakfast cereals with sausages for lunch. We hang out for a little while and then, start to pack.
I could use more practice when it comes to folding tents and sleeping bag- can't fit them to their cover.
The past 4 months, is the best time of my life. I enjoy myself really well with hiking and photography. I went all-in with experiencing life & it was the best choice ever. You never knew until you experience it.
There is a community that is willing to give and share, to receive and to give out without expectation. For that, life felt like a vacation every weekend.
Just as the different season of the year, different season leads to different weather and different focus. Life goals became more apparent as I learned what I really enjoy doing and desire to work on. Life is too short, to let things that we really want to do, slip off.
