Like it or not. Our foods is chemically based. The only difference is the origin of these chemicals- natural or artificial.
One of my undergraduate class that all food scientist to-be attended is food chemistry. We learned a great deal of food as a chemical compounds with the basics of carbohydrates, proteins and fats plus water that made up a portion of our food guides.
And believe it or not, food chemistry is awesome. Not awesome to study but awesome as a tools for research and development. Food research and development utilize such chemical reaction to create a blend of ingredients, that we called modern foods. We still love our foods.
Chemical compound have multiple synonyms and that adds up to the ingredients list having synonyms that even a food scientist could have a hard time to pronounce. That doesn't necessarily meant it is not meant for our bodies. In fact, the naming system is quite unrelated to how healthy these food ingredients are. The truth is an ingredients are not labelled as healthy sugar, healthy bread, healthy apple etc.
There is no such labelled that exist because legislation (food law and regulations) do not allowed such description to avoid confusion towards consumers. Only food consumers and relevant health care practitioners that learned to labelled such foods as healthy or otherwise. An apple is healthy. An organic apple is healthier. These apples are still organic or chemical compound.
